Cookie Policy
This Cookie Policy explains, in plain English, what cookies and similar technologies ClipLookup uses on cliplookup.com, why we use them, how long they stay on your device, and the simple ways you can control or switch them off at any time.
1. What cookies are
A cookie is a tiny text file that a website asks your browser to save on your device the first time you visit. The next time you come back, the site can read that file and remember something useful — like your language, whether you've already dismissed a banner, or whether you're a brand-new visitor or a returning one.
Cookies can be set by the site you're visiting (these are called first-party cookies) or by another company whose code is loaded on that page, such as an analytics or advertising provider (these are called third-party cookies). They can also be temporary session cookies that vanish when you close the browser, or longer-lived persistent cookies that stay for days, weeks, or months.
Cookies are not viruses, and they can't run programs on your computer. They simply help websites remember small pieces of information so the experience feels smoother and more personal.
2. How ClipLookup uses cookies
ClipLookup is a free, browser-based tool for looking up and saving publicly available short-video URLs. We use cookies and similar technologies for four main reasons:
- Keep the site working. Some cookies are essential — without them, basic features like security checks, rate limiting, and language selection would simply break.
- Remember your preferences. Functional cookies save small choices, such as your selected language or whether you've dismissed our cookie banner, so you don't have to redo them on every visit.
- Understand how the site is used. Aggregated, privacy-friendly analytics help us see which features are useful, where pages are slow, and what we should improve next.
- Show ads that keep ClipLookup free. Advertising cookies from partners like Google AdSense fund the cost of running the service, so we don't have to charge you anything.
3. Categories of cookies we use
We group cookies into four clear categories so you can decide what you're comfortable with.
3.1 Strictly necessary cookies
These cookies are required for ClipLookup to function. They support core features like security, basic navigation, abuse prevention, and load balancing across our servers. Because the site won't work properly without them, they are set automatically and don't require your consent.
- Session identifiers for security and abuse prevention.
- Rate-limiting tokens that protect the lookup tool from automated abuse.
- A small cookie that remembers your cookie-banner choice, so we don't keep asking.
3.2 Functional and preference cookies
These cookies remember choices you make, such as your preferred language or display options. They aren't strictly required, but they make the site easier and more pleasant to use.
- Language preference selected from the menu in the header.
- Layout and accessibility preferences, where supported.
3.3 Analytics and performance cookies
Analytics cookies help us understand how visitors interact with ClipLookup in aggregate — for example, how many people visited the homepage, which pages load slowly, and which features are most popular. We use this information to improve the product. We do not use it to identify individual users.
- Google Analytics 4 cookies such as _ga and _ga_*, used to distinguish unique visitors and sessions.
- Performance and error-monitoring cookies set by our hosting and CDN providers.
3.4 Advertising cookies
Advertising cookies are used by Google AdSense and its certified partners to deliver, measure, and (where you've given consent) personalize ads. They keep ClipLookup free by allowing us to earn revenue from ads instead of subscriptions.
- Cookies set by Google such as NID, IDE, and other DoubleClick / AdSense identifiers.
- Frequency-capping and conversion-measurement cookies that prevent the same ad from being shown too many times.
- Anti-fraud cookies that detect invalid clicks and impressions.
4. Third-party cookies and partners
Some cookies on ClipLookup are set by trusted third parties rather than by us directly. We carefully select these partners and only work with companies that publish their own privacy and cookie policies.
- Google LLC — AdSense, Google Analytics, and related advertising and measurement services.
- Cloudflare, Inc. — performance, security, and bot-protection cookies for our CDN.
- Hosting providers — minimal cookies used for load balancing and abuse prevention.
When you interact with these third parties, your data is also subject to their own privacy and cookie policies. We've linked the most relevant ones in the sections below.
5. Google AdSense and personalized ads
ClipLookup is monetized through Google AdSense. AdSense uses cookies, device identifiers, and similar technologies to show ads that may be personalized to your interests or simply contextually relevant to the page you're reading.
Specifically, AdSense and its partners may:
- Set cookies on your browser to remember that you've already seen a particular ad.
- Use the DoubleClick DART cookie and similar identifiers to serve ads based on your visits to ClipLookup and other sites on the internet.
- Measure ad performance, detect ad fraud, and ensure ads are safe to display.
You can opt out of personalized advertising at any time using Google's Ads Settings page, or visit the Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out tool and the Your Online Choices page (EEA / UK). Even after opting out, you'll still see ads — they just won't be personalized.
6. Google Analytics and measurement
We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how visitors find and use ClipLookup. GA4 sets cookies such as _ga and _ga_<container-id> to distinguish unique browsers and sessions. The information collected is aggregated and is not used to identify individuals.
We have configured Google Analytics with privacy in mind:
- IP anonymization is enabled where supported.
- We do not enable Google Signals or cross-device tracking by default.
- Data retention is set to the minimum useful period.
You can opt out of Google Analytics across all websites by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
7. Local storage and similar technologies
In addition to cookies, ClipLookup and our third-party partners may use related browser technologies to store small amounts of information on your device:
- localStorage and sessionStorage — used to remember preferences (like the cookie banner state) without sending data on every request.
- Web beacons and pixels — tiny invisible images that confirm when a page or ad was loaded.
- SDKs and tags — small scripts from our analytics and advertising partners.
When we talk about "cookies" in this policy, we generally mean all of these technologies, since they serve similar purposes and are controlled in similar ways.
8. Legal basis and consent
Where the law requires it — for example, in the EU, EEA, UK, and Switzerland under the ePrivacy Directive and GDPR — we rely on the following legal grounds to use cookies:
- Strictly necessary cookies: our legitimate interest in providing a working, secure website. No consent required.
- Functional, analytics, and advertising cookies: your prior, informed consent, gathered through our cookie banner. You can withdraw consent at any time.
Where consent is not legally required, we still aim to be transparent and give you simple controls.
9. How to manage or disable cookies
You have several ways to control what cookies ClipLookup and our partners set on your device:
9.1 Use our cookie banner
The first time you visit ClipLookup from a region where consent is required, a banner lets you accept, reject, or fine-tune optional cookies. You can reopen this banner at any time from the "Cookie settings" link in our footer to change your choices.
9.2 Use your browser settings
Every modern browser lets you view, block, or delete cookies. The exact steps depend on your browser:
Most browsers also offer a "Do Not Track" or "Global Privacy Control" signal. ClipLookup honors the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal where it is legally recognized.
9.3 Use industry opt-out tools
- Google Ads Settings — control personalized ads across Google services.
- DAA WebChoices — US-focused opt-out for many advertising partners.
- Your Online Choices — EEA/UK-focused opt-out tool.
- NAI Consumer Opt Out — opt out of behavioral advertising from NAI members.
Blocking strictly necessary cookies may prevent the site from working correctly. Blocking analytics or advertising cookies will not break ClipLookup, but you'll see less relevant ads and we'll have less information about how to improve the product.
10. Regional rights (EU, UK, US, Brazil)
Depending on where you live, additional rules may apply on top of this Cookie Policy.
10.1 EU, EEA, UK, and Switzerland (GDPR / UK GDPR / FADP)
You have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of personal data linked to cookies, to object to processing based on legitimate interests, and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.
10.2 California, Colorado, Virginia, and other US states
Under laws like the CCPA/CPRA, CPA, VCDPA, and similar state laws, you may have the right to know what categories of personal information are collected through cookies, to delete that information, to correct it, and to opt out of "sale" or "share" of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. ClipLookup does not sell personal information for money, but sharing data with advertising partners may count as a "sale" or "share" under these laws. You can opt out using our cookie banner and by enabling the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal in your browser.
10.3 Brazil (LGPD)
If you're located in Brazil, the Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados (LGPD) gives you rights similar to GDPR, including the right to confirm the existence of processing, access your data, correct it, and request anonymization, blocking, or deletion of unnecessary data.
11. Children's privacy
ClipLookup is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in regions where that is the minimum age for digital consent). We do not knowingly use cookies to collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has used the Service and provided personal data, please contact us and we will take reasonable steps to delete it.
12. Changes to this Cookie Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes to the cookies we use, the services we integrate with, or the law. When we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, highlight the change on the Site or through our cookie banner.
We encourage you to review this page periodically to stay informed about how ClipLookup uses cookies.

14. Cookie Policy FAQ
These are the real questions people email us about cookies on ClipLookup. We've written the answers the same way we'd explain them to a friend — no jargon, no scary legal wall of text.
Does ClipLookup use cookies?
Yes, but only a small handful. We use strictly necessary cookies to keep the site working safely, plus optional analytics and advertising cookies from partners like Google Analytics and Google AdSense. Those optional cookies help us understand what's useful, fix what's broken, and keep ClipLookup completely free to use.
What types of cookies does ClipLookup use?
We group everything into four simple categories: strictly necessary, functional or preference cookies, analytics cookies, and advertising cookies. Only the strictly necessary ones are set automatically where consent is required by law. The rest wait for your choice in our cookie banner.
Are cookies on ClipLookup safe?
Cookies are just small text files — they can't install software, run programs, or read other files on your device. The ones we use are sent over secure HTTPS connections and follow standard browser security rules, so they're safe in the same way cookies on any reputable website are safe.
Why do I need to accept cookies at all?
You don't have to accept the optional ones. The cookies that are technically required — like security checks and rate limiting — are needed for the site to load at all. Everything else (analytics, advertising, personalization) is your call, and saying "no" is just as easy as saying "yes".
Can I use ClipLookup without accepting any optional cookies?
Yes. You can reject all optional cookies from our banner and still use the full lookup tool. You'll see non-personalized ads instead of personalized ones, and we'll collect less anonymous usage data, but every feature of the site continues to work normally.
Can I disable cookies on ClipLookup?
Yes. You can manage cookies through your browser settings, through our on-site consent banner where it's shown, or through industry opt-out tools from Google, the DAA, and the NAI. Just keep in mind that blocking the strictly necessary cookies may stop parts of the site from working.
Does ClipLookup show personalized ads?
Ads are served by Google AdSense. Depending on the country you're in and the choices you've made, those ads may be personalized using cookies and identifiers set by Google and its partners. If you're in the EU, EEA, UK, or Switzerland, you'll only see personalized ads if you actively consent — otherwise we show non-personalized ads.
How does ClipLookup work with Google AdSense?
Google AdSense is our advertising partner. When you load a page on ClipLookup, Google may place cookies in your browser to decide which ad to show, count how many times an ad has been displayed, and prevent ad fraud. Google's own privacy and cookie policies, along with its Ads Settings page, let you control how Google uses that information.
Does ClipLookup track me across other websites?
ClipLookup itself does not build profiles of you across other websites. However, the advertising and analytics partners we work with may use cookies and identifiers that are present on many sites. You can switch off this kind of cross-site advertising at any time using the opt-out tools and browser controls listed in Section 9.
How long do ClipLookup cookies last?
It depends on the cookie. Some are session cookies that disappear the moment you close your browser. Others are persistent cookies that stick around from a few minutes up to about 24 months — for example, the cookie that remembers your language. Third-party cookies from Google and our CDN follow their own retention rules.
What happens if I clear my cookies?
Clearing cookies in your browser will sign you out of any saved preferences (like your chosen language) and reset our cookie banner, so you'll be asked again on your next visit. Nothing you've previously looked up or saved is affected, because ClipLookup doesn't store your downloads on our servers.
Do you sell my personal information collected through cookies?
We don't sell personal information for money. Some US state laws define "sale" or "share" more broadly to include sharing data with advertising partners for cross-context behavioral advertising — under that broader definition, our advertising cookies could fall in scope. You can opt out at any time using our cookie banner and by turning on the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal in your browser.
Does ClipLookup respect "Do Not Track" and Global Privacy Control?
There is no agreed industry standard for "Do Not Track" yet, so most browsers' DNT setting is informational only. We do, however, recognize the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal where it has legal force, and we treat it as a valid opt-out for the sale or sharing of personal information through advertising cookies.
Will this Cookie Policy change in the future?
Almost certainly. Cookies, privacy laws, and advertising standards evolve constantly. When we make a meaningful change to this policy — like adding a new partner, removing one, or changing how consent works — we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top and, if appropriate, flag it in our cookie banner so it's hard to miss.
What if I'm in a country not listed above?
The core Cookie Policy applies everywhere ClipLookup is available. Your local privacy and data-protection laws may give you additional rights that override anything inconsistent in this document. Nothing in this policy limits rights you have under mandatory local law.
